River City Sports Performance is committed to being the best and most comprehensive resource to local athletes as they strive to bring their game to the "next level", whether that is from JV to varsity, role player to playmaker, or High School to College and beyond. While our training programs can assist athletes reach those initial goals, there is more to making it to the college level than just physical attributes and skill---- the college recruiting process is complicated and athletes and parents must understand, embrace it, and work it to their advantage.
College Recruiting Guidance:
Many people believe that if you are a good athlete that coaches will somehow just find you and coming knocking on your door. This, sadly, is not the reality for most sports. A large part of the recruiting process is seeking out coaches and contacting THEM. Athletes must excel in building your personal Brand and marketing that brand to coaches. Who are you? What makes you unique? Why should they choose you over hundreds (maybe thousands!) of other athletes?
- Player Profiles - our staff will guide you through the process of creating a player profile (or athlete resume) which many coaches will want to see when you contact them. From what to include to what not to include, and how to format it correctly. You will leave with a quality finished product that you will feel confident sending out to coaches.
- Writing a Letter of Interest (cover letter) - Coaches are contacted by several athletes each day, and it is important to stand out in the crowd. Just like applying for a job this can be done by writing a great cover letter or initial letter of interest to send in with your player profile. Many big recruiting websites will plug your information into a template and send this to coaches for you -- but coaches know a genuine letter from a template. We will help you impress coaches by assisting you in the development of writing a quality, personal cover letter.
- Highlight Video Consultation - Once you have their attention it is time for your talent and skill to do the talking for you. This is usually done via a highlight reel of some sort. These videos can be formatted a variety of ways but what are coaches looking for? We will consult you regarding all elements of your highlight video to make sure you engage the coaches in a way that meets (and exceeds) their expectations. We can even refer you to a great, local videographer to help in the filming and/or editing of your video.
- Choosing schools and making contact - We believe that there is a school out there for every motivated, determined athlete. It is all about what level you are willing to play at and how far you are willing to travel. These types of questions are a few of the important ones to ask yourself as you decide what schools to contact. Our staff will guide you through the steps of identifying the schools to contact, collecting the appropriate contact information, and sending your prepared material to those coaches.
